Το touching.just, περιστρέφεται γύρω από τις σύντομες, επεισοδιακές συναντήσεις δύο χαρακτήρων, σε μια προσπάθεια να συνδεθούν και να αλληλεπιδράσουν. Περνώντας στην πορεία τους εναλλάξ από άβολες και περισσότερο οικείες καταστάσεις, αναζητούν τον κοινό τόπο. Σχεδόν! Ένα ρυθμικό παιχνίδι κίνησης και ήχου, που οδηγεί σε μη γραμμικές αναγνώσεις. To έργο έχει βασιστεί στη μεταγραφή γραφικής παρτιτούρας σε κίνηση και η σπονδυλωτή δομή του αποτελείται από τυχαίες και χιουμοριστικές συναντήσεις σε μια προσπάθεια διαπραγμάτευσης των ορίων με τον άλλο. Το touching.just δημιουργήθηκε την άνοιξη του 2017 στην Αθήνα, επιλέχθηκε στην ευρωπαϊκή πλατφόρμα χορού Aerowaves 2018, και έχει παρουσιαστεί στο ARC for Dance Festival #9 – Αθήνα, Spring Forward 2018 – Σόφια, Zurcher Theater Spektakel Ζυρίχη – 2018, The Place Λονδίνο – 2018, Theatre Vanves Παρίσι – 2019, Motum Festival Θεσσαλονίκη 2019 και Festival Conformazioni Παλέρμο – 2019. touching.just 2017 duet |

Ο Άρης Παπαδόπουλος και η Μάρθα Πασακοπούλου είναι χορευτές και δημιουργοί με έδρα την Αθήνα. Ακολουθώντας παράλληλα ανεξάρτητες καλλιτεχνικές πορείες, δουλεύουν μαζί από το 2016 ως arisandmartha θέτοντας σε κοινή διερεύνηση τα προσωπικά ενδιαφέροντα και την αισθητική τους στην περιοχή του χορού, της performance και του site specific. Το πρώτο τους έργο touching.just επιλέχθηκε στην ευρωπαϊκή πλατφόρμα χορού Aerowaves 2018 και έχει παρουσιαστεί έκτοτε στην Ελλάδα την Ευρώπη. Έχουν αναπτύξει και δημιουργήσει ακόμη τα έργα ‘Five Steps to Save the World’ (The Performance Shop – Φεστιβάλ Αθηνών 2018) και Lucy.tutorial for a ritual (Φεστιβάλ Αθηνών 2019, Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Χορού Καλαμάτας 2019) ως επιχορηγούμενη ομάδα του Υπουργείου Πολιτισμού και Αθλητισμού 2018-19 και με την υποστήριξη του Κέντρου Μελέτης Χορού Ι & Ρ Ντάνκαν – Αθήνα, Garage Performing Arts Center – Κέρκυρα, KLAP Maison pour la danse – Marseille and Flux Laboratory (FLUXUM FOUNDATION) Geneva. Ευέλικτοι και ανοιχτοί στη διπλή ιδιότητα του χορευτή-χορογράφου, εξετάζουν και επαναπροσδιορίζουν το κοινό έδαφος μεταξύ τους με κάθε νέα απόπειρα σκηνικής συνύπαρξης.

Ο Άρης Παπαδόπουλος γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα. Aποφοίτησε από την Αρχιτεκτονική Σχολή Αθηνών-ΕΜΠ (2009) και την Κρατική Σχολή Ορχηστικής Τέχνης, Αθήνα (2012). Έχει χορέψει για τις ομάδες Ελεύθερη Πτώση (2012), Κι Όμως Κινείται (2013-14), Oμάδα σύγχρονου χορού Πέρσας Σταματοπούλου (2015), Χοροθέατρο ΟΚΤΑΝΑ – Κωνσταντίνος Ρήγος (2012-2017), Apotosoma dance co. – Αντώνης Φωνιαδάκης (2015), David Dorfman (2016). Είναι σταθερός συνεργάτης της Στέγης Ιδρύματος Ωνάση (2013-2017) για το εκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα χορού Dancing To Connect για εφήβους. Ως performer έχει συνεργαστεί με τον εικαστικό Στέφανο Τσιβόπουλο (One Too Many, Project Syntagma, Kalfayan Gallery 2017), το Flux Laboratory (Lagune, ΕΜΣΤ 2016), το Palais de Tokyo (Prec(ar)ious Collectives, 2017), τον Γιάννη Βαρελά (Monster, 2017), την Βιτόρια Κοτσάλου (Day Out of Time, 2017) και την Dora Garcia (The Sinthome Score, Άγραφη Βιβλιοθήκη, AnnexM, Μέγαρο Μουσικής Αθηνών 2018-19. Από το 2016 συνεργάζεται με την βρετανική ομάδα Arbonauts (Between the Dog and the Wolf, London 2018), καθώς και με την HIMHERANDIT Productions για τa έργa ReDoing Gender 2.0 (2018-19), Mass Effect και Champions (2019-2020). Είναι συν-ιδρυτής, δημιουργός και περφόρμερ της ομάδας χορού ‘arisandmartha’ και μαζί με την Μάρθα Πασακοπούλου, έχουν αναπτύξει και παρουσιάσει τα έργα ‘touching.just’ (Αθήνα 2017 – περιοδεία 2018-19), ‘Five Steps to Save the World’ (The Performance Shop – Φεστιβάλ Αθηνών 2018) και Lucy.tutorial for a ritual (Φεστιβάλ Αθηνών 2019, Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Χορού Καλαμάτας 2019). Ενδιαφέρεται ιδιαίτερα για τις κατασκευές χώρων, την έννοια του τοπίου και του site-specific ως πεδία δράσης του κινούμενου σώματος, ενώ πειραματίζεται και ανακαλύπτει δική του εικαστική και κινητική γλώσσα. Είναι φιλοξενούμενος καλλιτέχνης του Onassis-AIR για το πρόγραμμα Critical Practices, International Artistic Research Program – Spring 2020.

Η Μάρθα γεννημένη στον Πειραιά το 1984, σπούδασε χορό στην Ανώτερη Επαγγελματική σχολή Ν. Κονταξάκη (2006), και Χημεία στο Εθνικό και Καποδιστριακό Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών. Το 2011 ολοκλήρωσε τις Μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές της στο London Contemporary Dance School, με ενδιαφέρον στον αυτοσχεδιασμό και την αντιληπτικότητα του περφόρμερ, και έκτοτε έχει συνεργαστεί ως χορεύτρια με διάφορους χορογράφους όπως τους Wally Cardona, Eva Recacha, Robert Clark, Sung Im Her, Michael Klien, Leila McMillan, Roberta Jean, Seke Chimutengwende, Άρτεμη Λαμπίρη, Ανδρονίκη Μαραθάκη, τις ομάδες Requardt & Rosenberg, Backsteinhaus Production, David Dorfman Dance, και τους καλλιτέχνες Tino Sehgal (Tate Modern/ Roman Agora/ Palais de Tokyo), Στέφανο Τσιβόπουλο (Kalfayan Gallery) και Marina Abramovic (Serpentine Gallery/ Benaki Museum), όπου το 2016 αναβίωσε δύο αρχειακά έργα της Cleaning The Mirror και Art Must Be Beautiful, Artist Must Be Beautiful, στα πλαίσια της έκθεσης AS ONE στο Μουσείο Μπενάκη. Είναι υπότροφος Α. Σ. Ωνασείου, Ι. Φ. Κωστοπούλου και Σκυλίτση, ενώ το 2015 έλαβε επίσης την υποτροφία danceweb από το Φεστιβάλ χορού Impulstanz στη Βιέννη. Τελευταία πειραματίζεται με τη δική της χορογραφική δουλειά και το 2017 σε συνεργασία με τον Άρη Παπαδόπουλο δημιούργησαν το έργο touching.just, με το οποίο επιλέχθηκαν ως Aerowaves 2018 Artists, δημιούργησαν την ομάδα arisandmartha και συνέχισαν με τα έργα Five Steps to Save the World(Performance Shop, Φεστιβάλ Αθηνών, 2018) και Lucy. tutorial for a ritual (Φεστιβάλ Αθηνών 2019, Φεστιβάλ Καλαμάτας). Η Μάρθα είναι 2019/20 Artworks Fellow του Ιδρύματος Σ. Νιάρχος.

Τouching.just is a rhythmic game dealing with the absurd, idiosyncratic, awkward and episodic
meetings of two performers in their effort to interact and connect. Going through intimate and
uncomfortable situations both are looking for their common ground. Just!

The duet was developed through the process of transcribing a series of graphic scores into
movement. Its modular structure consists of short, incidental, random, humorous encounters
constantly attempting to get in tune with the “other”, share and negotiate boundaries and
declaring togetherness as a common, mutual decision where how and why will constantly be in
question. 

touching.just was produced and premiered in Athens in 2017 and has since been presented in
Arc for Dance Festival – Athens, Acropoditi Dance Festival – Ermoupolis, Zürcher Theater
Spektakel – Zürich, The Place – London, Théâtre de Vanves – Paris, Motum Festival – Thessaloniki, Conformazioni Festival – Palermo.

ABOUT arisandmartha

Aris Papadopoulos and Martha Pasakopoulou are dance makers and performers with a
background in Architecture and Chemistry respectively, exploring the fields of dance,
performance, and site specific. They began working together in 2016 bringing their individual
interests and aesthetics into a common discussion around constructed space, performer-viewer
proximity, humor, absurdity and rhythm. With their first work touching.just (2017) they were
selected as Aerowaves Twenty18 Artists and have since toured in Greece and Europe. Together they have also developed and presented the works ‘Five Steps to Save the World’ (The Performance Shop – Athens Festival 2018) and Lucy.tutorial for a ritual (Athens Festival 2019, Kalamata International Dance Festival 2019) receiving financial support by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports and being supported by Duncan Dance Research Center – Athens, Garage Performing Arts Center – Corfu, KLAP Maison pour la danse – Marseille and Flux Laboratory (FLUXUM FOUNDATION) Geneva. Flexible and open to the double identity of dancer-choreographer, they are discovering new, common creative grounds with their every performative encounter.

Aris Papadopoulos(GR) is an Athens based dance artist, maker and performer with a background in Architecture. He holds an Architect Engineer Diploma from the National Technical University, Athens (2009) and a BA in Dance from the National State School of Dance, Athens (2012). As professional dancer he has worked amongst others for OKTANA Dancetheater (2012-2017), Apotosoma dance co. – Adonis Foniadakis (2015), David Dorfman (2016), The National Theater – Konstantinos Rigos (2016-2017) and the Greek National Opera – Andonis Foniadakis (2017). He is a long-term collaborator with the Onassis Cultural Centre Athens for the educational program Dancing to Connect (2013- ). As a performer Aris has worked with visual artists Stefanos Tsivopoulos (One Too Many and Project Syntagma – Kalfayan Gallery, Athens, 2016) and Jannis Varelas (Monster, solo exhibition – Onassis Cultural Centre, Athens 2017), Flux Laboratory foundation, Geneva (Lagune, EMST, Athens 2016), Palais de Tokyo (Prec(ar)ious Collectives, Athens 2017) and artists Vitoria Kotsalou (Day Out of Time, Athens Festival 2017) and Dora Garcia (The Sinthome Score, Unwritten Library, AnnexM, Athens Concert Hall 2018-19). He is a collaborator to the interdisciplinary company Arbonauts(UK) (Between the Dog and the Wolf, London 2016) and HIMHERANDIT Productions(DK)-Andreas Constantinou (ReDoing GENDER 2.0 2018-19, Mass Effect and Champions 2019-20). Aris is co-founder, maker and performer of dance and performative arts company ‘arisandmartha’ along with fellow partner Martha Pasakopoulou. Together they have developed and presented the works ‘touching.just’ (Athens 2017|tour 2018-19), ‘Five Steps to Save the World’ (The Performance Shop – Athens Festival 2018) and Lucy.tutorial for a ritual (Athens Festival 2019, Kalamata International Dance Festival 2019). Aris is personally keen on the notion of landscape as a cultural construction and juxtaposition of both man-made and natural environments, therefore seeing it as a heavily charged field of potentiality for actions, exploration, playfulness and composition, and is distilling that into his own experimentations through visuals and movement. Aris is one of the Critical Practices residency recipients at Onassis-AIR International Artistic Research Program – Spring 2020. 

Martha Pasakopoulou is a dance artist from Greece based in between Athens and London. She holds a BA in dance by the Professional Dance School of N. Kontaxaki in Athens and a Chemistry degree by the National University of Athens. In 2009, she was a member of the Postgraduate Company EDge10 at London Contemporary Dance School, where in 2011 she also completed an MA in Performance with a particular interest in improvisation scores, perception and performer’s experiential journey. She has collaborated with various choreographers such as Wally Cardona, Robert Clark, Eva Recacha, Sung Im Her, Roberta Jean, Michael Klien, Seke Chimutengende, Leila McMillan, Robin Dingemans; with the companies backsteinhaus production, Requardt & Rosenberg, David Dorfman Dance and with the artists Tino Sehgal (Palais de Tokyo/ Athens Roman Agora/ Tate Modern), Stefanos Tsivopoulos (Kalfayan Galleries) and Marina Abramovic (Benaki Museum/ Serpentine Gallery), where she re-performed two of her archival works Cleaning the Mirror and Art Must Be Beautiful, Artist Must Be Beautiful during AS ONE exhibition in Athens. She has received scholarships by A. Onassis, I. Kostopoulos and Schilizzi Foundations and in 2015 she was a recipient of the Danceweb scholarship by Impulstanz Festival in Vienna. The last few years she experiments with her own work and in 2017 she created the work touching.just, a dance duet in collaboration with her colleague Aris Papadopoulos with which they were selected as Aerowaves 2018 Artists, they created arisandmartha dance company, and continued with the works Five Steps to Save the World (Performance Shop, Athens Festival 2018) and Lucy. tutorial for a ritual (Athens Festival 2019, Kalamata Dance Festival). Martha is currently a 2019/20 Artworks Fellow by S. Niarchos Foundation.
