Όταν πηγαίνουμε στο θέατρο, υπογράφουμε ένα φανταστικό συμβόλαιο που μας αναγκάζει να ενδώσουμε σε “suspension of disbelief”. Ο όρος περιγράφει τη θελημένη αναστολή της κριτικής σκέψης, τη θυσία του ρεαλισμού για χάρη της απόλαυσης του θεατρικού “ψέματος”. Παραμένοντας σταθεροί στη θέση μας συμφωνούμε να βιώσουμε τη ζωή μέσα από μια πρόβα της, ταξιδεύουμε σε διαφορετικούς χώρους και χρονικές περιόδους, παίζοντας το ρόλο του θεατή. Αυτή η αόρατη συμφωνία μας διδάσκει πώς να “παίζουμε” τους ρόλους μας.
Tο έργο του Δημήτρη Χειμώνα διερευνά θεατρικές συμβάσεις, μηχανισμούς και πλαίσια, μέσα από τη χρήση και κατάχρησή τους. Παρουσίασε έργα στο Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2015 -2016), στο Μουσείο Μπενάκη (Αθήνα, 2016), στη Μπιενάλε Νέων (Τίρανα, 2017), στο Window Laboratoire (Παρίσι, 2018), και στη Prague Quadrennial of Space Design & Performance (2019), μεταξύ άλλων.

Attending the theatre presupposes our agreement to an imaginary contract that forces us to suspend our disbelief. “Suspension of disbelief” describes the willingness to temporarily withhold one’s critical faculties, and to sacrifice logic for the sake of pleasure of a theatrical experience. By remaining static on our seats, we agree to experience life through a rehearsal of it, we travel through space and time, while playing the role of the audience member. This invisible contract teaches us how to “play” our parts.
Dimitris Chimonas’ work investigates theatre conventions, devices, and frames through their use and abuse. He presented work at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2015 -2016), at the Benaki Museum (Athens, 2016), at the Young Artists Biennale (Tirana, 2017), at the Window Laboratoire (Paris 2018), and at the Prague Quadrennial of Space Design & Performance (2019), amongst others.
